Tip Tuesday: Online Shopping!
Updated: Mar 20
About 99% of the outfits I buy are from online boutiques. I much prefer finding outfits or putting different pieces together from the comfort of my own couch, rather than a busy shopping mall. While I do pride myself on being able to find some great deals online, I've also experienced a lot of "misses." Below are a few of my top tips for making your next online shopping experience fail-free!
Make sure the site is legit! First and foremost, make sure the website is legitimate. If you've never heard of it, proceed with caution. Check their social media, make sure they have a decent following, and then look to see what others are saying. You'll also want to make sure their engagement matches their follower count. If they have 100k followers but only about 20 likes per photo, something is off.
Ask around: Looking for new online boutiques to explore? Ask your friends! You're bound to find some great new stores that you can already be sure are legit.
Do your research: Before splurging on what feels like the "perfect dress" click around to a few other sites and make sure you're getting the best deal. A lot of online boutiques get the same dresses, but their prices can be variable. Do a little digging before you commit and make sure you're getting the most bang for your buck.
Specify your Search Terms: Have a vision you're trying to recreate? Get specific with your search terms! Rather than searching "white dress" try narrowing down your search to get options that are closer to what you're looking for.
Read the reviews: Before you click "add to cart" make sure you read the reviews. Pay extra close attention to sizing and rely on the the experience of others to guide you.
Give yourself options: One of the worst things you can do is order an amazing outfit for a specific event, wait days for it to get there, and then realize it's not going to work. Avoid this dilemma by ordering yourself a few options to choose from.
Read the return policy: I've been screwed over by this a time or two, so make sure you read the return policy closely! Be sure you know whether returns will be given in the form of store credit or your original payment, especially if you're ordering a few different options with the idea you'll need to return one.
Keep the tags on! The biggest drawback to online shopping is that it often requires returns. Make this as easy as possible by keeping the tags on until you're absolutely sure you're keeping the item.
By now you've learned a little about my favorite online retailers, and I want to hear some of yours! What are your favorite online boutiques?
